I'm Emanuel from Angola. I enjoy spending quality time with people, especially my loved ones, engaging in deep conversations and meaningful exchanges. I love talking about life, culture, faith, technology, and personal growth, and I naturally ask a lot of questions because I enjoy understanding how people think, what shapes their perspectives, and learning from others.
In my free time, I enjoy swimming, exercising, reading, and working on personal projects. My favorite book is the book of Proverbs in the Bible because of its practical wisdom and timeless lessons. I also enjoy listening to audiobooks, which help me keep learning wherever I am.
"Be willing to help your classmates whenever you can, and maintain a positive attitude; small things like kindness and a smile go a long way in building strong friendships."
WHAT STOOD OUT TO YOU ABOUT ELTE?
ELTE stood out to me because of its strong reputation in Computer Science as one of the best programs in Hungary. I felt I was not being challenged enough, and I was looking for a rigorous and stimulating environment. I also had friends studying at ELTE who shared the interesting and advanced topics they were learning, which further confirmed that ELTE would be the right place for my growth.
WHAT MAKES STUDYING AT ELTE SO GREAT?
Studying at ELTE means being part of a highly competitive and intellectually stimulating environment, where being surrounded by strong students naturally pushes you to grow. The university also has excellent professors who are specialists in their fields and provide high-quality teaching and guidance.
The academic level is demanding, but this makes the experience very rewarding. Graduating from ELTE, especially with good results, is widely respected and opens many academic and professional opportunities.
WHAT ARE / WERE YOUR CHALLENGES IN YOUR STUDY PROGRAM?
One of my main challenges has been maintaining a good balance between work, studies, and other responsibilities. The academic workload can be quite demanding, and when combined with work commitments, it sometimes becomes difficult to manage everything effectively. Learning how to stay organized and manage my time better has been an ongoing process for me.
HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THESE CHALLENGES?
I overcame these challenges by becoming more intentional with how I use my time. I try to learn as much as possible in fewer hours by focusing on prioritisation based on the demands of each course. I also make use of any small gaps in my schedule to review or learn something new, which helps me stay consistent.
When things become particularly difficult, I adjust my work schedule or take time off when possible, since this flexibility is allowed for me. This helps me focus more on my studies during critical periods without falling behind.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE ELTE IN THREE WORDS?
Challenging, Humbling, Transformative.
HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR DEGREE WILL HELP YOU IN YOUR LIFE AND CAREER?
My degree has already played an important role in shaping my mindset and developing my technical skills. It has helped me secure an internship at a multinational company and later transition into a full-time role as a software engineer. Beyond professional opportunities, it continues to challenge me intellectually and prepares me to grow into a highly qualified and capable professional in the field of software engineering.
DO YOU HAVE ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE STUDENTS AT ELTE?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions and seek help from those who are strong in areas you are still learning. Surround yourself with people who share similar ambitions and goals, as this can greatly influence your growth and motivation.
Be willing to help your classmates whenever you can, and maintain a positive attitude; small things like kindness and a smile go a long way in building strong friendships.
Also, take advantage of opportunities such as demonstrator roles, competitions, and other academic or extracurricular programs, as they can help you stand out when applying for jobs and open valuable career opportunities.
Finally, learn your own way and aim to become the best student of yourself. In the end, you often find that many of the answers you are looking for are already within you.
